Garland, or roping as some call it, is another specialty of Hutton-Loyd. We pride ourselves on having much fuller garland than the stuff one sees at an average department store.
One of the daughters of the Loyd family, Haley, makes the majority of our garland herself. It is a tedious and rather exacting process of carefully selecting the proper greenery and placing it along a central piece of twine, then scrupulously cajoling the fussy and temperamental garland machine to cooperate in tightly securing greenery and twine together by means of a thin, circumferentially wrapped metal wire. After at least 8 years of practice, Haley has it down to a science and can produce garland to quite exact specifications.
We keep ready-made garland on hand at the Christmas Center for sale, which we cut to the length the customer specifies. Customers who require 75’ or more of garland or special greenery must place their orders in advance (in person, over the phone, or by email).
Dimensions & Weight
Unless requested otherwise, our garland is around 4” thick when laid flat, weighs about ½ lb per foot, and can be made to any length less than about 75 feet.
Greenery Options
Our standard garland is made entirely of White Pine. Upon special order, we can make garland from Eastern Red Cedar.
Life
When used out of doors, most greenery products will last about 4-6 weeks before losing their color.
Sizes and Prices
Our standard White Pine garland costs $1.00 per foot, and can be purchased in intervals of any length up to 75’ (e.g. an order of 150’ will be made in two 75’ rolls).
Customers desiring garland made with Eastern Red Cedar should contact us to discuss options and prices.
Note that we generally have only a few 75’ rolls of garland pre-made. As a result, for most large or special-greenery orders we will have to make the garland upon request. Although we strive to fill orders on the same day whenever possible, during busy periods we may require several days. Call for details.
Fire Caution
Kept inside, greenery products will be almost completely dry in about a week and very flammable. Therefore, it is very important that you exercise caution in the placement of these products. Avoid hanging greenery items above stoves, fireplaces, or other sources of intense heat in your home.
